step 1: From Tenerife to La Gomera

For some years now La Gomera has its own airprt. It doesn't have international traffic and is approached only by flights of the internal Canarian airline BinterCanarias (see below).
The straight way to La Gomera starts at the airport Tenerife Airport South/Reina Sofia (TFS), from here it is about 15 kilometres to the harbour of Los Cristianos. You have two options to get to the harbour. A ride by taxi costs about 20 Euros (don't forget to ask the chauffeuer for a "recibo", a receipt). It is cheaper to go by bus (Línea 111 "Titsa").

Bus connection between the airport Tenerife-South and Los Cristianos (continuing to Playa de las Américas). Some of the busses stop at the ferry terminal of Los Cristianos before they continue to Playa de las Américas. Please ask the driver.
In the port of Los Christianos there are two ferry companies at your service: Compañia Fred.Olsen offers the Trimaran "Benchijigua Express" as the fastest and most expensive alternative, which is connected to the island's bus schedule. Another Catamaran, but much smaller, is the persons-only-ferry "Benchi Express", cruising also to Valle Gran Rey and Playa Santiago. Naviera Armas' vessel "Volcán de Taburiente" takes 60 minutes - but with best chance to see whales and dolphins pass.

Small persons only ferry (also called "nutshell"). Service three times a day between San Sebastián, Playa Santiago and Valle Gran Rey and once a week from San Sebastián de la Gomera to Los Cristianos/Tenerife (FRI 12:25 h) and back (FRI 13:45 h). While rough seas limited service.
Due to the termination of the ferry services of the Benchi Express, there won't be any ferry services from San Sebastián de la Gomera to Valle Gran Rey (via Playa Santiago) from 1st February 2012.

Tenerife's second airport Tenerife North Airport/Los Rodeos (TFN) is about 70 km away in northern direction from the airport "Reine Sofia" (TFS). Those who don't want to take the ferry to La Gomera (a ferry bus shuttle, departing at the central bus station of Santa Cruz de Tenerife 8 km away from the airport Los Rodeos, takes you non-stop to the harbour of Los Cristianos in 60 minutes; the busses leave 90 minutes before the ferries' take-off; the fare is free for passengers of the ferries) have, from here, the possibility to take a 40-minute flight to La Gomera's airport near Playa de Santiago with BinterCanarias. The airline also offers flights from Gran Canaria, flight time 30-40 minutes.

step 2: Out and about on La Gomera

Next to the ferry terminal of Compañia Fred.Olsen the busses of the Servicio Regular Gomera are waiting for the arrival and departure of the trimaran ferry. The central bus station ("estación de guaguas") is located in the centre of San Sebastián de la Gomera above the market hall.
If you want to explore the island on your own initiative we advise you to hire a car for a few days. We offer reasonably priced hire cars, e.g. a Volkswagen Fox for 21.70 Euros per day (taxes and fully comprehensive insurance inclusive, no excess, unlimited mileage, additional driver without surcharge, children seats free of charge).

There are only few roads on La Gomera and even fewer junctions. But watch out! The naming follows creative principles, that (in the eyes of strangers) are hard (if not impossible) to comprehend, and although every street actually has a name, there is hardly any labelling. For non-locals it can be quite difficult to find the booked cottage or hotel. To avoid you getting lost on La Gomera, we will provide you with a detailed description of how to get to your holiday destination without trouble. |
